Call For Entries

The Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge is now accepting applications for Through the Visions of Educators, a juried art exhibition. This new exhibition opportunity will showcase the hard work and immense talent of teachers in the East Tennessee region. Applications are open to any artist, 18 years and older, who is actively teaching in East Tennessee. Through the Visions of Educators will be on display from August 15 to October 31, 2023 in the Imagination Gallery of the Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge (CMOR).

Eligibility: Any artist 18 years and older who is actively teaching in the East Tennessee region.

2D- any medium (excluding fiber art)

3D- any medium (excluding fiber art)

Artwork Specification

A maximum of 3 pieces may be submitted. One piece may have multiple parts (for example, a tryptic painting).

All 2D and 3D media are eligible (excluding fiber art). All work must be original.

3D Artwork must not exceed L: 22” W: 22” H: 19”

2D Artwork must not exceed 24” x 30”

All 3D artwork must be freestanding. No hanging sculptures will be accepted.

All 2D artwork must be ready to install with a hanging wire on the back. The Imagination Gallery has a cable hanging system to display 2D artwork. 

Artwork that does not adhere to the guidelines or is deemed not to be a faithful representation of the image submitted will not be selected for exhibition.

Artwork must be in final form when the application is submitted.

The subject matter must be appropriate for viewers of all ages. Artwork must be properly finished and have no loose materials that can come off.  

Artist Release

The artist release agreement must be signed upon submitting the application.

Photographs

Upload up to 2 photographs of each submission (6 images total)

File format: .jpg files only. Submissions must be high quality and a maximum of 4800px on the longest side.

Name the file as: [artist first initial].[artist last name].[image number].jpg

Example: J.Smith.01.jpg

Artist Statement

In the application, artists are asked to upload a brief artist statement (100 words max) which reflects the work(s) you are submitting. This statement may be used by CMOR for educational and promotional purposes for this exhibition.

Delivery

Artists will be notified of acceptance by July 14,2023.  Accepted artwork must be delivered to CMOR by July 29, 2023, at 4 pm. The artist is responsible for delivering their artwork to the Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge during operating hours. Please do not ship pieces. 

Artwork should be labeled legibly with: Artist Last Name, First Name, and Title. If more than one piece is being delivered, please label them as “1 of 3” and “2 of 3”, etc. 

All work must be installation ready when delivered.

Deadline to drop work off is July 29, 2023.

Awards

The exhibition will be judged by a jury of experienced local artists. Awards will be announced, and artists will be celebrated during the opening reception on August 15, 2023.

2D Artwork: 1st place: Annual Reciprocal Sustainer Membership to CMOR (valued at $125); 2nd place: $75 Gift Certificate to the CMOR Gift Shop; 3rd place: Family Pass for Admission for 4 to CMOR (valued at $30)

3D Artwork: 1st place: Annual Reciprocal Sustainer Membership to CMOR (valued at $125); 2nd place: $75 Gift Certificate to the CMOR Gift Shop; 3rd place: Family Pass for Admission for 4 to CMOR (valued at $30)

People’s Choice Award: $75 Gift Certificate to the CMOR Gift Shop; This award will be announced at the end of the exhibition, to give visitors time to vote.

Pick-Up

Artists must pick up their work from CMOR no later than November 14, 2023. 

Artists will receive a reminder email after the exhibition closes.
